Bible Verses About Peace to Overcome Conflict, Doubt, and Anxiety
California Christian Counseling
Peace can elude us when we see how far the world has fallen. We watch the news or read the headlines and feel the anxiety growing in our bellies. We do things we know better than to do and feel guilt and shame. No wonder we need Jesus to cover our sins so we can approach God with a clear conscious. But how do we gain that peace? Studying Bible verses about peace is the first step.
Different types of peace
There are different types of peace that we need in our daily lives. We want to live at peace with others, reduce conflict, and have inner peace. God wants these things for us, also. His Word shows examples of living at peace with our neighbors and authorities and how to secure that peace in your heart.
When we move away from the Bible, we allow negative thoughts to spread like wildfire. Without Scripture in our minds, anxiety will cling to those negative thoughts, robbing us of spiritual peace and planting seeds of conflict.
Whichever way you decide to memorize Scripture (index cards, sticky notes, journaling, or the Notes app on your phone), make it a point to spend a few minutes reading God’s Word daily. Make it part of you by incorporating the activity into your daily routine. For example, spend fifteen minutes with your Bible verses about peace in the morning before work and then journal what you read before bed.
The following Bible verses about peace approach them from external (conflict with others) and internal (spiritual) perspectives.
Bible verses about peace to overcome conflict with others
Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper. – Jeremiah 29:7, NIV
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. – Matthew 5:9, NIV
God plants us where we are, and He can use us wherever we are, including our community, city, state, and nation. When we seek to make peace with others and pray for our community, we become the blessing and receive the benefits that result.
Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice! Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you. – 2 Corinthians 13:11, NIV
We often judge others, even other Christians, when they backslide. Yet, the apostle Paul stated that we should strive and pray for the complete restoration of each Believer. If we pray more for other Christians instead of judging them, we are likelier to live at peace with others.
Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. – Ephesians 4:3, NIV
Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. – Romans 12:17-18, NIV
We should not try to exact vengeance on others. There is a fine line between justice and vengeance; we should seek God before acting. The Holy Spirit strives for peace within us. When you surrender your life to Jesus, He makes it possible to forgive what others consider unforgivable.
But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness. – James 3:17-18, NIV
Peacemakers work to remain blameless. They do not give their enemies a reason to humiliate them. Of course, you will meet people who lie and betray you. This is part of life in a fallen world. But, if possible, try to remain upright with your head held high as a Son or Daughter of God.
Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again? Have salt among yourselves, and be at peace with each other. – Mark 9:50, NIV
Encourage the people around you to follow Christ and live a life worthy of His sacrifice. Serve others and make each person feel important. When you do this, you become likable and will find it easier to make friends. People want to live at peace with someone they genuinely like.
Bible verses about peace to overcome self-doubt and anxiety
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. – John 14:27, NIV
Jesus warned us that we would not find peace in this world. True peace is available only through Christ. Anxiety sets in, but we should remember that Jesus wants us not to be afraid and not to live our lives gripped in fear.
I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. – John 16:33, NIV
You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. – Isaiah 26:3, NIV
Have you noticed that your peace seems distant when you stray from God? Trusting in God and making Him a priority brings clarity. Even though your circumstances may not change, how you view them changes. God gives your mind His perfect peace. You move differently when you realize that God has a purpose for you and gave you a calling. You know who you are in Him.
I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me. – Psalm 3:5, NIV
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:7, NIV
You must fill your mind with God’s promises to stamp out anxiety and self-doubt. Trusting in the Lord and allowing the Holy Spirit to guide you begets peace. You lean into God, and He guards your heart and mind. The Lord is never far from you; He is moving around you through His Spirit, so you do not have to fear.
Consider the blameless, observe the upright; a future awaits those who seek peace. – Psalm 37:37, NIV
Living to hurt others will only leave you empty. Yet, hurt people hurt others. To seek peace, you should understand why you do the things you do. Why do you say hurtful words to others and yourself? Why do you allow your actions to bring pain? Why do you self-sabotage? Counseling can help you get to the root of why you do what you do and find ways to change that behavior.
Are you a new creature in Christ? Are you worried that you will never be able to be worthy of Jesus’ love? No one is worthy of His love and sacrifice, which is why He gave it freely as a gift so that we could share in His inheritance with God.
You want to live a Christ-led life but stop doubting yourself whenever you are imperfect. God sees when you are trying hard to be like Christ and the unintentional mess-ups. When you accept that God accepts you because of Jesus, peace can fill your spirit. You no longer need to live afraid or doubtful of God’s love. It is there if you accept Christ and turn everything over to Him.
